Did you know Summer in Bethlehem was originally supposed to be a Tamil movie starring Prabhu and Manju Warrier?

In this exclusive revelation from the Summer in Bethlehem 4K Re-Release event, Director Sibi Malayil opens up about the movie’s unknown beginnings. He reveals that the project started as a Tamil film featuring actor Prabhu and Manju Warrier. The team had even recorded a song (the original version of “Kannadi Koodum Kootti”) and shot it over an entire night!

However, the project was shelved due to the producer’s financial constraints just as the crew was preparing to leave for Ooty. Sibi Malayil credits Ranjith, who was the production controller at the time, for saving the subject. Ranjith pitched the story to producer Siyad Koker, transforming the dropped Tamil project into the Malayalam classic we celebrate today. Watch the director share this piece of cinema history!
