In one of the most anticipated moments from the ‘Vilaayath Budha’ grand trailer launch in Kochi, Prithviraj Sukumaran has set the record straight. Addressing a direct question from the media about the notable comparisons between his sandalwood smuggler character, ‘Double Mohanan’, and Allu Arjun’s iconic ‘Pushpa’, the superstar gave a clear and definitive answer.

BTF Productions exclusively captured this key interaction where Prithviraj dismantled the comparisons with facts about the film’s timeline. He stated, “When this film was first conceived, and when Sachy (the late director) first told me this story, ‘Pushpa: Part 1’ had not even been released… We had no idea that another film about a sandalwood smuggler from Telugu cinema would become such a nationwide phenomenon.”

Prithviraj explained that by the time ‘Vilaayath Budha’ completed its shoot, both ‘Pushpa 1’ and ‘Pushpa 2’ had become massive hits, turning the character into a “rage across India.”

He candidly admitted that the team is “aware” of the inevitable comparisons. However, he made a critical clarification regarding a specific promo dialogue that seemed to hint at the ‘Pushpa’ film: “We have simply ‘acknowledged’ it… that dialogue is not in the film.”

Prithviraj firmly concluded that the two projects are fundamentally different. “There is no such similarity in the characterization, the story, or the nature of the character… The script and its conception are totally different.”

‘Vilaayath Budha’, directed by Jayan Nambiar and also starring Shammi Thilakan, hits cinemas on November 21st.
