Berny highlights the massive challenge faced by singer Afsal, who was a relative newcomer at the time. He was pitted against the legendary M.G. Sreekumar, who had already won two National Awards. Berny explains that for the scene to work, the “battle” had to feel real—the newcomer had to match the legend’s energy note for note.
