On any given Tuesday, you can find Nissy chechi selling candles outside Kaloor Church. However, everyone knows her simply as “Chakkara” (Sweet). This is her inspiring life story of profound sacrifice and unwavering joy, which she shared as part of BTF Network’s “The Real Life Fighters” series.

A Life for Her Brother: An Inspiring Life Story

Nissy, now 56, has dedicated her entire life to one person: her brother. For 25 years, he has been unwell and unable to work. Because of this, Nissy made a conscious, life-altering choice. She decided she would never marry so she could care for him.

“My brother is my father and my God,” Nissy said. In fact, he was once a skilled mechanic who supported the whole family. He looked after her like a father and never once spoke a harsh word to her. Therefore, she feels it is her loving duty to care for him now. She has worked as a home nurse and now sells candles, all to support the man who is her “jivan” (life). This powerful dedication is the heart of her inspiring life story.

Finding Joy in Hardship

Despite their struggles, Nissy’s spirit is why people call her “Chakkara.” Instead of dwelling on her problems, she finds happiness in simple things. For example, she loves to sing, and her face lights up when she talks about music. She says she can learn new songs almost instantly. This positive energy is a key part of her inspiring life story.

At the same time, their hardship is real. Their home is in poor condition, with only a plastic tarpaulin for a roof. They are still waiting for help from the local panchayat to get it repaired. Yet, even from this place of poverty, Nissy’s cheerful and loving nature shines through.

Ultimately, Nissy’s inspiring life story is not one of sadness, but of pure, selfless love. When our host asked for her greatest wish, she didn’t ask for money or a new home.
